How do I enter a room on Pandanet?

Just select the room from the room list in the rooms tab.

How does the room feature work?

While in a Pandanet room, you will only see players in the same room and their games. You can also chat with the other persons in the room.

How to start a game?

There are three ways to get a game on IGS at the moment:

  1. Challenge a player
  2. Set your status to Looking and get challenged
  3. Use the find opponent system

How do I challenge a Player?

  1. Click on the player in the player list
  2. Click on challenge in the popup menu
  3. Choose the appropriate settings

What does “looking” mean and how do I change it?

Pandanet tracks whether you are currently looking for a game. Other players can only challenge you when you are looking for a game. You can change your status by clicking on the icon next to the red/green connection button. When you someone challenges you, you will receive a popup showing the requested game settings, where you can accept or decline the challenge.

How does “Find Opponent” work?

It is a way to find an opponent automatically. Just enter your preferred time settings and rating range and wait for a matching opponent. The game will start automatically.

How do I download my games?

Go to Net Social Plaza , enter the same username/password combination you use to log into IGS. If you click “Game recors, Kifu” under “Personal Information” you will get a complete Archive of your games.

How do I play a game in the Go Panda European Team Championship?

  1. Enter the Eurochamps room
  2. Find your opponent, negotiate colors
  3. If you are the challenger (black), click on your opponents name and choose “challenge”
  4. Fill the menu with Color: black, Handicap: none, Size: 19, Main time: 60, Canadian byoyomi with 10 minutes and 25 stones. Click “Ok”.
  5. Your opponent will get a popup to confirm the challenge after he has verified the settings
  6. A board for the game opens
  7. Done, both players can start the game by telling their names, country and board number of this match. This is very important for the spectators – don’t forget it. Just enter the information in the chat box to the right.

How do I observe a game?

  1. Click on the game in the game list
  2. Click on “observe” it the popup menu

How do I watch professional live games?

  1. Search for the game you want to watch. Usually at the top of the list. If you can’t find it, look for games with many observers.
  2. Open the game like a any other game.

How do I talk to a player?

Find the player in the player list, right click on his name and choose “chat”. A chat window will open where you can type your messages.

How do I watch a review?

Go to the “Home” tab, select it from the list and click “observe”.

How do I start a review?

Also in the “Home” tab, there is a button for that. You can start from an empty board, a saved sgf file or a newly finished game.

What does owner/controller/player mean?

Right, this is slightly complicated.

  1. The owner is the one who created the review.
  2. The controller is the person editing the review at the moment. At the beginning, the owner is the controller.
  3. A player is anyone who has the right to be a controller.

What happens if any of the players disconnects?

Generally, you need to reconnect within 5 minutes, otherwise the game is lost by forfeit. Your game will be a loss as resignation if you lose your Internet connection three times during a game.

To encourage polite behaviour on the server, there are ending points. If you have lost all your ending points, any disconnection will lead to immediate loss.

What to do against badly mannered/abusive opponents?

You can report unfair behavior using the Pandanet contact form:
Contact Pandanet

You can also adjourn questionable games directly from the GoPanda2 client at any time and have them reviewed by an administrator. The option to do that is available in the tools menu to the right of the navigation slider.

I can’t connect anymore…

It’s possible that your account has been banned for bad manner/cheating. If it has, you should receive an e-mail to confirm this.

There are also a number of reasons to get IP banned (i.e. it is not your account but your computer in general that is denied access to IGS):

  1. Several people connecting from the same network
  2. Too many/large commands sent in a short period of time. This shouldn’t happen with the official clients! They limit the rate automatically. If you have this happen to you anyway, please report it to us.

IP bans don’t last long, as they are just an automatic measure to protect the server from abuse. Usually you should be able to play again after around six hours.

A more obscure reason is that you connected with a japanese IP. This will automatically disable your account, because japanese accounts receive additional content and aren’t free to use. You’ll need to contact an admin to re-enable it.

What are the terms of service for using Pandanet?

Look at the Terms of Service page. It also includes privacy conditions.

What is the Net Social Plaza for?

The Net Social Plaza is Pandanet’s own social network. There you can access a game archive and ranking graph for you and other users, but also add friends and write blog posts about your last games.
