- Go career: Ţăranu started learning go from Cristian Cobeli in 1989, at the age of 16. His first tournament was for players in the 10 to 4 Kyū range, when he was a 6 kyu. He won all eight games. He moved up to amateur 1 dan in a year, and just a year later moved up to 4 dan. He started winning small tournaments in Romania around this time. He was invited to Japan by Saijo Masataka in 1995. He quickly joined the Nagoya branch of the Nihon-Kiin and became an insei. After two years, he became the second European (after Manfred Wimmer from Austria in 1978) to pass the professional examination. It took Catalin just 4 years to reach 5p (5-dan professional). He won the European Go Championship in 2008. He was the president of the Romanian Go Federation for 2009 to 2011.

- Go career: I'm 17 and my current rank is 4d. I first heard about Go from my father, who was also my first teacher, when I was 5 or 6, but I started to play seriously from the age of 9. Shortly after I began to play on KGS and managed to win many contests, thus achieving a fairly good rank (5 kyu). A great part of my afterward progress was due to Mirel Florescu, who helped me to break through the barriers and win numerous national and international competitions. Among my most notable results are the 2nd place at the European Championship U12 (I also took part in the WYGC in Taiwan in 2010), the 3rd place at the same championship in Sankt- Petersburg in 2012 (with participation at the WYGC in China U16, where I got the 6th place out of 12 players) and the 1st place at Bognor Regis U16 in 2014, when I became european champion. I won the 2nd place with the Romania team at the EYGTC this year (2016) and the 3rd in the previous year and I was national champion many times (I have at least 5 titles at U12, U14 and U16 categories). In the future, I would like to become a professional player, if possible. But I love Go and, for the time being, I try to learn from every new experience and see every game as a safe and durable path to self-improvement.

- Go career: I started playing Go when I was 8, at school, from Teodor Vartic. He was my first teacher and he introduced me to the magic world of Go. After I discovered this game, I taught my brother, Denis, to play. He was really interested in this game and I was happy to have a partner for studying. I travel around the world with my brother to participate in Go tournaments. In 2011 was 9th place at World Youth Championship. We got many good results in international competitions and we are still going on. This year I am the champion of U18 category in Romania.
